As Barnsley were keeping their play-off hopes alive on Tuesday, the town's next highest-placed club also got an injury-time winner to give themselves a chance of promotion without play-offs.

Shaw Lane Aquaforce came from behind to beat Evo-Stik Division One South bottom club Tividale 3-2 and are now three points behind leaders Stafford Rangers, who were once 26 points ahead. If the table-toppers lose at third-placed Coalville Town on the final day tomorrow, the Ducks can claim the only automatic promotion spot on goal difference with victory at Rugby Town.

Should Aquaforce not win promotion automatically, then they will have to play their play-off game against the fifth-placed side on Wednesday. That would be just 24 hours after contesting their first Sheffield and Hallamshire Senior Cup final against Frickley Athletic at Sheffield United's Bramall Lane which they reached by beating Handsworth Parramore on Thursday. Going into the play-offs will ensure that the Shaw Laners have played seven times in 14 days.

Manager Craig Elliott said: "We might be the only team disappointed to make it to a final. It's going to be a crazy week.  We will try and enjoy the cup final even if we have a play-off game the next day. I just pray and hope I can get players back for the games. It is great to keep the title alive until the final day. We have still got a chance and anything can happen.

"You like to think things happen for a reason and the last-minute winner (from James Walshaw against Tividale) could be that because we looked dead and buried. I am sure they were ready with their champagne at Stafford but we take it to the last game of the season. To do that is an unbelievable achievement.

"At Christmas we were written off. We would be a little bit disappointed if we didn't win the title because we have come a long way – but we have to keep some perspective. We've only lost once since Christmas, only lost four times in a season and once at home.  In any other league we would be champions."

Aquaforce would have been in a much stronger position had events happened slightly differently on Saturday. While the Ducks were conceding a last-minute leveller in their 2-2 draw with Kidsgrove Athletic at Shaw Lane, Stafford's goalkeeper saved two late penalties in their 0-0 draw with Basford United. Rhys Meynell and Adam Priestley netted for the Ducks against Kidsgrove.

Relegated Tividale took the lead twice on Tuesday. Shaw Lane skipper Matty Thornhill levelled the first time then, after the visitors went 2-1 in front, Walshaw tapped in with ten minutes left then diverted in Thornhill's shot for the injury-time winner. The scorers in the cup win over Handsworth were Priestley and Alex Davidson.
