Left Tom Kennedy agreed a deal to leave Barnsley yesterday and was immediately replaced by Joe Dudgeon who joined on a month's loan from Premier League Hull City.
Kennedy, 29, has been training with the youth team since a disappointing performance in the first pre-season friendly at Halifax on July 12. The defender, who made 75 appearances in 18 months at Oakwell, was informed that he was not part of manager Danny Wilson's first team plans and did not go on the pre-season trip to Italy.
After his contract – which had another year left to run – was cancelled, Kennedy took to Twitter. He said: "I'd just like to wish all the players and staff at Barnsley all the best for the season. I enjoyed my time at the club, good and bad, and hope the club can get back to where it belongs in the Championship ASAP. Thanks to the fans, positive and negative. It's just part and parcel of the game."
Leeds-born Dudgeon, 23, came through the youth system at Manchester United and made his professional debut on loan at Carlisle in 2011 before signing with Hull. He has played 39 games for the Tigers but did not appear at all in the Premier League last season. He is currently the only fit left-back at Barnsley as highly-rated 17-year-old George Smith is out for six weeks after breaking his toe against Dudgeon's club Hull in a friendly on Saturday.
