A CRACKDOWN on ticket touts to stop fans being forced to pay ‘rip off’ prices for major sporting and music events has the backing of a Barnsley MP.

Michael Dugher, who represents Barnsley East, is demanding action to get fans a fairer deal and throwing his support behind Labour Party proposals that would see touts using automated software to bulk-buy thousands of tickets for resale at huge profits facing prison sentences.

He hopes Labour’s deputy leader Tom Watson’s plan to introduce criminal penalties for the worst offenders will stop sports and music fans paying extortionate prices on the secondary ticket market as a result of touts using specialist computer software called ‘bots’.
