Barnsley will bounce back from an unusually poor defensive performance against Coventry City on Saturday, says assistant coach Dale Tonge.

The Reds had not conceded in seven matches, the longest run of clean sheets since 1955, but missed out on equalling a club record when they drew 2-2 with Coventry who also had several chances to win the game. Barnsley still have the best defensive record in the EFL this season with just 30 goals conceded in their 40 League One matches. One more clean sheet this season would equal a club record of 20 set in the 42-game season of 1984/85.

Tonge said: “The boys have been outstanding defensively, from front to back.  “It’s been a strength of ours of late and hopefully we will get back to that for the rest of the season. “The goals were from two errors.  “We were going to concede at some point but it was a shame it was on Saturday because I thought it was the best we have played for a month.”
