IT’S the end of an era for a family bakery following the closure of the village store where it all began.

The humble Park Road shop at Worsbrough Bridge was the home of White’s Bakery, founded by Elsie White and her husband Albert in 1934.

The family-run bakery business is now managed by David White, who is the grandson of Elsie. He took the tough decision to close its QuidBake shop last month following a downturn in trade.

David said none of the three staff from the Park Road shop suffered from the closure as the store manager was already planning to leave and two part time staff were offered jobs in the factory.

“It was losing money,” he told the Chronicle.
