A NURSERY teacher who has clocked up 33 years’ service in Cudworth has retired.

Christine Dutton, 60, has worked at Birkwood Primary since 1984 and has become a notable figure in the village for teaching scores of youngsters during the last three decades.

A special assembly was held at the Darfield Road school on Thursday, which looked back at Christine’s time as a teacher.

“It was an absolutely amazing day and I can’t thank everyone enough, especially staff, parents and the children who have made my career a pleasure every single day,” said Christine, who lives in Pontefract.

“The children make the school what it is and there’s no better place to work. We’ve had so many laughs and wonderful memories and I’ll miss it so much.”

Headteacher Julie Allen added: “Christine has been an exemplary member of staff and has always put children first. She’s encouraged every child to be the best they can be and everyone has special memories of her as she’s taught so many children.”
