PLANS to build 16 energy-efficient council houses in Bolton-upon-Dearne are expected to be approved by ruling cabinet members in the new year.

The homes, earmarked to be built on vacant land on Billingley View, include ten two-bedroom and six three-bedroom properties, all of which will be semi-detached and managed by Berneslai Homes.

They will be let to applicants on the council house waiting list, according to a report which is expected to be approved by cabinet members on January 8.

A report said: “The development will positively impact on those residents residing or operating a business in the surrounding area. The site has been vacant for some years and has, in the past, attracted antisocial behaviour and fly-tipping.

“With the pressure on the council’s housing waiting list, these family homes will be popular and provide high-quality, energy-efficient social housing.”

The report added that £2.6m has been allocated for the scheme, which includes the work, fees and an ‘element of contingency’.
