A SKATEPARK hit by antisocial behaviour and damage has been given a new lease of life by ex-offenders.

The park, which is next to the Dorothy Hyman Stadium on Snydale Road, was the subject of a ten-day project carried out by the Community Payback team.

Painting and general maintenance work was carried out by the group, after the park was identified as needing work following several incidents of antisocial behaviour, as well as a tidy-up around the site.

Glyn Staves, from South Yorkshire Community Rehabilitation Company, said: “Work was scheduled to finish yesterday and they’ve done a cracking job.

“We’ve done several skateparks across Barnsley now. It’s a great scheme as everyone benefits from the work they do.”
