TWO 'drive thru' restaurant / coffee shops have been given the go ahead at a Stairfoot business park.

Barnsley Council officers have given approval for the development by Stainsby Grange (Wombwell) Ltd., which also includes splitting Blakemore's warehouse into four separate retail warehouse club units.

The site, off Bleachcroft Way opposite B and Q, comprises of two existing commercial units - Blakemore's Cash and Carry, which has operated as a retail warehouse club since March 1984, and Wilson's Carpets, which took up tenancy in 2011.

Stainsby wanted the approval so it has the 'flexibility to maximise the chances' of securing a new tenant should Blakemore's not renew its lease and ensure the unit remains viable.

Mark Titley, who deals with property for Blakemore's, confirmed it has 'every intention' to renew its lease.

In addition to this, two 'drive thru' restaurant / coffee shops will be built on a service yard next to Blakemore's and 35 car parking spaces created.
