A MAN was injured in an explosion at door factory Premdor near Darton yesterday afternoon.

A spokesman for South Yorkshire Police said a ‘minor explosion’ was reported to police at about 1.30pm. The spokesman said the call had come from the ambulance service and said one employee at the site at Birthwaite Business Park, off Huddersfield Road, appeared to have suffered non life-threatening injuries.

A spokesman for Yorkshire Ambulance Service said both an ambulance and the air ambulance were dispatched to the scene.

“A man in his 50s was taken by road ambulance to Pinderfields hospital with burn injuries, accompanied by a doctor from the air ambulance who was monitoring his condition.”

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said three fire engines from Barnsley, Cudworth and Tankersley were called to the scene. A boiler and conveyor belt were said to be on fire.

A spokesman said the incident would be logged as accidental.

The Chronicle contacted Premdor but nobody was available to comment.
