THIS little toy poodle Zac was a faithful companion to Chelsea Kershaw since she was six.

So Chelsea, now 23, and the rest of her family, were naturally devastated when their 16-year-old pet had to be put to sleep.

Chelsea wanted to say a proper goodbye, so she and her sisters paid £120 for an individual cremation for Zac but to their horror a mix up at the vets meant Zac was cremated communally with other dogs and they never received the ashes.

“He was a massive part of our lives for so many years,” said Chelsea, of Windmill Close, Barnsley.

Vets4Pets veterinary surgeon Peter Richards said: “In July 2016 we were asked by Zac’s owner to put him to sleep and arrange for the communal cremation of his body.

“During the appointment, a change of request was made to have Zac’s body cremated individually for return of the ashes. Regrettably, the change in decision, unfortunately led to Zac’s body being sent according to the original request for communal cremation.

“We have apologised for this error, which Zac’s owner has accepted, and made changes to ensure this cannot happen in future. We are pleased to have an ongoing relationship with our client and their new puppy.”
