BRONWYN Slater hid in a shopkeeper's cupboard for more than two hours with her mother and father as a gunman carried out a horrific massacre in the Tunisian beach resort of Sousse.

The 14-year-old had been in the sea with mum Maxine Midgley, 47, when gunman Seifeddine Rezgui pulled a Kalashnikov metres up the beach and opened fire on holidaymakers, shooting indiscriminately at tourists as they lay on sun loungers outside the Hotel Riu Imperial Marhaba.

Bronwyn's dad Richard Slater, 42, had been laid on the beach just 30 metres away from where gunman began his campaign.

The family, from Kexborough, had to run for their lives as gunfire rang out across the beach, taking shelter in a local shop with about 15 other tourists until the ordeal was over.

Rezgui, the Tunisian student who carried out Friday's attack shot and killed 38 people, including up to 30 Britons. Dozens more were injured.
