Fashion student Jack Wainwright's first collection will be modelled on the catwalk at The Great Yorkshire Show - and he has also landed an interview with designer Ralph Lauren.

The 23-year-old was put forward by his university tutor.

Jack, of Station Road, said: "It's the first time my collection will have been shown and it's quite exciting.

"The collection is based on Kes and being from Yorkshire."

Jack's collection of men's knitwear includes a jacket, jumper, anorak and a pair of nylon, knitted joggers.

The pieces are part of his degree work in fashion design at Northumbria University where he is in his final year.

His designs have caught the eye of Ralph Lauren and is being interviewed for the junior men's knitwear designer post next month.

If he is successful, he will move to New York where he will be involved in the selecting and making fabrics.

"I'm really excited - it's a huge step."

• The Great Yorkshire Show will be held in Harrogate from July 9-11.
