CREWS from McDonald’s restaurants around Barnsley teamed up with the local community in a bid to clean up the town centre.

A 30-strong group embarked on the challenge to give the outskirts and centre of town a refresh.

In three hours the team collected 20 bags of rubbish over five miles of the outskirts of the town centre.

David Kelly, assistant manager of the McDonald’s restaurant on Old Mill Lane and organiser of the event, said: “It was great to see everyone come together and help tidy up the area around the town centre in spite of the challenging weather.

“It’s a key priority of ours to ensure that the local area remains free of litter and an enjoyable place to live, work and visit.

“As a business we understand the important role that we play in making the area a cleaner place for everyone.

“Everyone’s efforts were greatly appreciated, and we look forward to continuing to carry out litter picks to keep the area tidy, once the new restaurant opens as well.”
