A NEW town centre Turkish restaurant hopes to bring ‘proper Turkish food’ to Barnsley.
Istanbul Kitchen and Bar, located at the former site of The Vaping Goose at 29 Wellington Street, opened on Wednesday.
Owner Fethi Tosun, 42, said: “It’s a proper Turkish restaurant, it’s not like a kebab shop, we cook in a real charcoal grill with all the equipment shipped from Turkey.
“In Barnsley now there’s an Italian restaurant, another Turkish restaurant, it’s becoming more multicultural and we saw potential.
“We are something different for people who are maybe fed up of eating in a pub.”
Fethi is originally from Turkey and moved to England after meeting his wife.
The idea of starting a restaurant was suggested to him by friends who live in Barnsley.
