MEMBERS of the public have donated £1,600 towards a campaign group’s bid to secure a judicial review into a decision to create a one-way road system through a popular park.

Campaigners from Save Penny Pie Park launched their fundraising bid last week following Barnsley Council’s decision to press ahead with the gyratory system, which is designed to cut congestion into the town centre from junction 37 of the M1.

Lyndsey Darren, the organiser of the Just Giving scheme, said: “The generosity and support shown again by the community, not only of the Dodworth ward but all areas of Barnsley and beyond, is humbling.

“We have longer than we first thought to launch our legal fight and raise funds. Our legal advisers have given us the great news we have until October to compile our evidence, raise funds and start our legal action against Barnsley Council.

“We would like to thank everyone who has donated so far but we still need more so please support us in our fight to stop this crazy and damaging gyratory and save our park.”
