HIGH winds expected tomorrow have put an end to the planned fireworks display at the Christmas lights switch-on.

The display has been cancelled in the interests of public safety but the council is keen to stress the rest of the event is still going ahead as planned.

There will be performances from princesses and super heroes as well as an appearance by Henry Gallagher from the recent series of Britain's Got Talent.

The fun starts at 5pm when the characters will arrive to sing lots of well-loved children's songs. Visitors will also be able to take part in a sing-along that it sure to get people in the festive spirit.

The lights will be switched on at 6pm by Queen Elsa and Princess Anna from Frozen, to name a few, and for those who would like to meet their favourite characters there is an exclusive event in Experience Barnsley at 6.30pm.
