MORE than 450 jobs and a £20m boost to the local economy will be created by a new business park next to the M1 junction at Birdwell, leader of the council Sir Steve Houghton has said.
Work is well-underway at Gateway 36 and steel shells of the first phase of three commercial units totalling 65,000 sq ft can now be seen from the Dearne Towns Link Road.
The site also has planning permission for a hotel, a car showroom, food and drink outlets.
The Chronicle understands the hotel and pub are very close to going ahead and announcements are expected soon.
** The full story appears in the Barnsley Chronicle newspaper, dated July 10. **
We have been at the heart of our community, every week, since 1858. The town and its people have changed dramatically since then but the Chronicle has been a constant.
It’s our belief that news should be available to everyone regardless of their circumstance. But we need a little helping hand to do so.
Production Editor, Ashley Ball, said: "In an ever changing media world, it’s important that news is reported correctly and without any hidden agenda.
Your support allows us to keep holding decision-makers to account and report on everything that happens in the town, good or bad, fairly."
