POLICE have charged five people in connection with a robbery at the Victorian Arcade on Friday.

Four men and one woman will appear at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court tomorrow (Friday).

A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police said: “Five people have been charged in connection with the robbery of a 41-year-old man in Barnsley town centre on VE Day (Friday 8 May).

“Four men have been charged with robbery and will appear before Sheffield Magistrates’ Court tomorrow (Friday 15 May). Their names are: James Steven Upton, 25, of no fixed abode, Edward David Johnston, 27, of no fixed abode, Kieron Yates, 19, of no fixed abode, and Ryan Edward Houlston, 34, formerly of Bank End Avenue, Barnsley.

“Appearing alongside them will be 21-year-old Jodie Louise Heppenstall, formerly of Princess Street, Barnsley, who is charged with robbery and common assault.

“All five have been remanded in custody pending their court appearance tomorrow.

“Please be aware that legal proceedings are active and therefore members of the public are required by law to not post anything that could compromise the criminal justice process.”
