Barnsley have bolstered their under 23s squad this week by agreeing new contracts for six players and signing three others.

Jack Walton, Ben Williams, Will Smith, Romal Palmer, Louis Wardle and Cameron Simpson have all extended their deals by one year until 2019. Left-back Jordan Barnett, who is from Penistone, has penned a one-year deal. He came through at Penistone Church before joining Burnley last season then being released by the Premier League club this summer.

The Reds have also given one-year deals to 19-year-old midfielder Elvis Otim who was at Nottingham Forest previously and striker Tai-Reece Chisholm, 18, formerly of Birmingham City.

Left-back Williams has signed a new two-year deal which will keep him at the club until 2020. The 19-year-old won the club's Young Player of the Year award last season and has been training with the first team since the players returned at the start of last week. Former Wales under 19s player Williams, who joined the Reds a year ago after leaving Blackburn Rovers, is yet to make his first team debut but was on the bench for the FA Cup loss at Millwall earlier this year.

Centre-back Smith, 20, was also on the bench that day as well as at Bristol City the previous year. Wardle, from Wombwell, and Simpson are both wingers while Palmer is a forward. Israeli midfielder Amir Berkovits has been offered a deal but is yet to sign.
