A CHARITY based in Barnsley which saved more than 400 tonnes of surplus food going to waste last year has relocated to new premises.

FareShare Yorkshire has moved to a bigger and improved new distribution and training centre to increase the amount of food it can provide for charities.

After 17 years of operating from Grange Lane, Stairfoot, it has moved to Aldham Industrial Estate at Wombwell, to a site which will double up as a home to the Barnsley Foodbank Partnership supporting vulnerable people in crisis across the borough.

This was enough food to provide 968,660 meals served by 162 local charities and community organisations in the region, such as lunch clubs, breakfast and after school clubs, refuges, homeless shelters and drug rehabilitation centres.
