THOUSANDS of Barnsley families have been supplied with healthy food since Mottram Hall Food Bank was set up two years ago.

Gateway Church set up the food bank in Mottram Street in February 2013 to respond to the needs of people who find themselves experiencing an emotional or financial crisis.

Clients have been referred to the food bank by more than 30 agencies and the food bank is managed and staffed in its entirety by volunteers.

Churchill Fellow Neil Morris said: "To date nearly 4,000 Barnsley folk have been have been supplied with three days of nutritionally balanced food."As austerity measures continue to bite, there is a real growing fear and worry that families will not have access to balanced meals, or that they would forsake eating in order to pay their bills."
