A FOOTBALL CLUB in Darfield is appealing for information following the theft of its ride-on lawn mower.

Volunteers at Darfield Junior FC, based on Barnsley Road, have to cut the grass on five pitches themselves and without their mower are facing a huge task.

Chairman John Dale, of Loxdale Gardens, Barnsley, said: "It was due a service so we took it to the back of the Sir George's Arms pub in Wombwell where there is a big space and more room to work.

"The mower was donated to us but it was in a bad state so it cost us £800 to do up.

"It was a big outlay and it's a bit on the small side for all the pitches we have. You could spend an entire day cutting the grass."

The club formed in 1991 and has produced players currently in the academy systems at Rotherham United and Barnsley.
