ANY BARNSLEY tourists in Times Square would have had a shock on Saturday if they spotted an advert on one of the iconic location’s biggest billboards.

Barnsley FC co-owner Grace Hung appeared alongside Toby Tyke on the huge screen above Nasdaq in the New York City tourist trap.

In China, it is currently the Year of the Dog - and the advert declared it the Year of Toby.

More than 355,000 people pass through Times Square daily, giving the Reds plenty of exposure across the pond.

Barnsley FC chief executive Gauthier Ganaye said: “Thanks to our new international ownership, it has opened avenues across the world and we are really pleased to be featured in one of the most famous places on the globe, New York.

“We aim to continue to expand our brand internationally and within the UK, this is just the beginning of a long project for us all.

“We have a large community of fans both in the UK and abroad, especially in New York where we have our own designated supporters group who we are very proud to support, so keep flying the red flag you New York Tykes.”
