A YOUNG girl was left with a huge smile on her face after she was given a signed football shirt by Sheffield Wednesday’s goalkeeper.

Liliah Johnson, nine, who is a pupil at Bank End Primary School, is an Owls fan and attended their FA Cup match against Chelsea on Sunday in London.

Following their defeat, Liliah went down to the front to catch a closer look of the team.

Wednesday ‘keeper Keiren Westwood went across to the side of the pitch where Liliah and another young fan eagerly awaited.

Keiren handed his shirt across to a young boy and the moment was captured on camera, along with the look of disappointment displayed on Liliah’s face.

The clip was later shared on social media.

Liliah’s mum Joanne Johnson, of Pinder Oaks, Barnsley, said: “I was tagged in the video on Twitter and I shared it and I just wrote ‘so close yet so far, next time Liliah’.

“To be honest she was disappointed but she said the other child was younger than her so she didn’t mind.

“We arrived back from London at aroun d 1am and we didn’t think anything of it. I woke up in the morning to find a message from Keiren asking for myaddress as he had seen the video and felt bad and wanted to send a signed shirt to her.

“I didn’t tell Liliah as I wanted to surprise her and on Wednesday morning as we were leaving to go to school the postman was just walking up the drive.

“She asked who the parcel was for and I told her it was for her.

When she got into the car and opened it her face was a picture.

“She was speechless. She’s been so happy since she’s received the shirt and being a football player herself for Barnsley Ladies, it really brightened her day. She’s even happier because her friend is also going to receive a shirt and it just makes me proud to be a Wednesday fan.”
