A PAIR of footballers took on a close shave for charity.

Worsbrough Bridge player Calan Rollinson and Ossett Town’s Liam Owen have raised more than £1,500 for Cancer Research UK in sponsorship for their head shaves.

Calan was inspired to fundraise after his mum Lucille was diagnosed with acute leukaemia three weeks ago.

Calan, from Arundel Drive, Lundwood, said: “I didn’t want to just sit by, I wanted to do something. So I decided to raise some money for Cancer Research and my best friend Liam volunteered to shave his hair with me.

“We had raised up to £1,000 but since we shaved on Saturday we have made it to around £1,500 and it keeps coming in.

“Whatever cash we have donated online will go to Cancer Research and any given in person will go to the ward treating my mum.”

Calan and Liam, from Michael Road, also in Lundwood, had their heads shaved at Nick’s Barbers on Agnes Road, Barnsley.

“The headshaves were donated by Nick himself who we both play for in Sunday football. We have been given great support from family, work, football and friends.”
