ANOTHER former colliery site in Barnsley could be turned into a business park bringing more jobs to the area.

More than 20 acres of land off the Dearne Valley Parkway at Birdwell will be transformed into business units as well as a hotel/car showrooms, pub and fast food restaurants if plans submitted to the council are approved.

The site was part of the former Rockingham Colliery and was used for open cast mining until 1995.

Harworth Estates, based near Rotherham, has applied for planning permission to create a new access road onto the site from the existing Rockingham roundabout close to junction 37 of the M1.
