BARNSLEY Council’s fostering service will be taking over Oakwell for the third successive year before the Reds’ Good Friday clash against Shrewsbury.

They will be handing out information leaflets and will be available for a chat with anyone interested in being a Barnsley carer for a Barnsley child.

During the players’ pre-match warm-up, the squad will also wear green fostering service t-shirts.

Ian Leech, Barnsley Football Club’s commercial manager, said: “We believe football is about feeling part of a family and creating happy childhood memories so we’re delighted to be supporting the fostering team at Barnsley Council as they search for new foster families for local young people within our town and we look forward to welcoming the whole fostering family to the match tomorrow.”

Rachel Dickinson, executive director for people at the council, added: “Our aim is to keep our looked-after children with foster carers within Barnsley. Being able to continue living in the same town allows children and young people in foster care to go to the same school and keep seeing their friends and family members.

“Our links with Barnsley Football Club in the past few years has really helped boost our awareness within the town. The club’s always happy to help and we are grateful for their support.

“We’re hoping to speak to as many fans as possible who may be interested in foster care now, or even if it might be something they consider in the future, and of course, we’re hoping to see Barnsley win the game.”
