A BEAUTY technician who specialises in realistic eyebrow tattoos is offering free clinics to people who suffer from cancer and alopecia.

Sarah Colton offers ‘permanent makeup’ services tattooed makeup that lasts up to 18 months from her clinic on Windhill Lane, Staincross.

Sarah, who has been practising the technique for six years, has started to offer free clinics once a month to help people who have lost their eyebrows regain their confidence.

The former hairdresser said the idea to offer the free service came shortly after she began to explore permanent makeup, when she worked for a client who had cancer.

“I had a hairdressers in the town centre,” said Sarah, 35. “I had a client who was going through chemotherapy and she asked me to go to her house and cut a wig for her, and she just asked if I could do her brows as well.

“I did them and she looked in the mirror and burst into tears. I just felt I couldn’t take money from her.

“It was that feeling that I had made someone that happy and given them something they didn’t have, that made me think this was something I should offer to everybody.

“A lot of people were contacting me who were going through chemotherapy or had alopecia, so I decided to set up a hair loss clinic.

“I treat people day on day for vanity, but this is something different. I find it really emotional how people react, it’s clear that this really impacts people.”

Sarah started as a hairdresser when she was 13 years old, setting up her own salon at 21 which she sold last year to focus on permanent makeup.

Sarah said: “It’s a very intricate procedure, it’s about making it look like real hair and look as natural as possible. The pigment fades so clients come back every 18 months.

“I have spent a lot of time practising and perfecting it.

“We work a day for free but I wish I could do it every day. I have said that if I won the lottery, I wouldn’t give my job up and I’d just do it for free.”

Sarah’s free clinics are held on one Saturday each month, and each clinic sees five clients given the complementary service.

She takes advanced bookings, as potential clients have to be patch-tested and their health and suitability looked into before undergoing the treatment.
