A PAIR from Barnsley have won £90,000 after fooling the nation to be crowned winners of a new reality TV show.

The MTV show, True Love or True Lies?’ saw a number of couples go into a mansion and go head-to-head to prove they are the best couple.

However, among them were couples who weren’t in a relationship at all and it was up to the public to vote and decide who were the real lovers.

After winning over the nation, Barnsley pair Liv Owens and Louis Shaw managed to convince the public and their housemates that they were in fact a real couple and bagged themselves the cash prize.

But after being crowned winners, they had to come clean to everyone that they were fooling everyone and are just friends.

The pair met in 2014 at Leeds Festival and have been best friends ever since.

Liv, 21, of Commercial Street, Barnsley, said: “It was actually really hard in the mansion and there were some points when we thought we couldn’t do it any more.”

Louis, of Sheffield Road, Road, said: “It was intense in there because you had to be on it 24/7. When you go to bed at 4 in the morning and then you’re waking up at 9 it’s a really long day because if they don’t have enough content for one day then you have to keep filming through the night.”

The duo have decided to split their winnings in half.

Liv said: “I’m going to move out, that’s the first thing I’m going to do, get my own little flat and I want to go back to Ibiza for the closing parties and obviously help my family out with money.”

Louis, 21, said: “I’m going to clear my mum’s overdraft, pay my dad back and go back to Ibiza and hopefully get my own place.”

Now they’ve finished the show the two are having a few weeks of chilling out time until they go down to London in a few weeks to discuss with MTV the next steps about their future.

Louis said: “We’re not really sure what's happening but that will be a big day for us because we’re new to this so we don’t really know what the next steps for us are.”
