FRIENDS of a Barnsley man left paralysed after a horrific accident are throwing a party to welcome him home from his long stay in hospital.

Motorcyclist Jonathan Bates, 44, was on his way home to Millers Dale when he was involved in an accident on Oakdale Road, Worsbrough, in February.

The father of two, who works as a project manager, was admitted to hospital where he lay in a coma for two weeks.

Doctors diagnosed he had suffered severe brain injuries, a broken neck and two broken vertebrae leaving him paralysed from the neck down.

He is now home and looking forward to a party at Worsbrough Miner's Welfare Club.
