LITTLE Alfie Ledgeway didn’t let specialist neurosurgery get in the way of a fun afternoon with his friend and Barnsley FC centre back Alfie Mawson.

The three-year-old suffers from chiari malformation, which means the lower part of his brain is being pushed towards his spinal cord, causing him constant headaches, balance problems and increasing difficulties with his eyesight.

The pair have been pals since little Alfie, of West Street, Wombwell, was a mascot for Barnsley earlier this year.

Alfie Mawson said: “Us Alfies have to stick together, and it’s clear he’s a fighter. He loves the club and he’s having a tough time - it doesn’t cost anything to check on how he’s doing, and he obviously enjoys beating me, so why not?“
