A MAN on a fundraising mission was giving a surprise donation after he was spotted in his famous green wig.

Duncan Owen-Elmer, 65, is trying to raise £53,000 for Macmillan, the amount of money it costs to pay a nurse for a year.

Duncan, who has so far raised more than £30,000 for Macmillan, was travelling home from collecting donations when he struck up a conversation with a lady who had just finished a coffee morning.

Eileen Jones, Macmillan corporate ambassador volunteer for South Yorkshire, said: “Duncan was travelling on a Stagecoach Express bus alongside a lady called Cheryl Green who is their operational manager. A conversation struck up between the two of them on the bus.

“Cheryl asked Duncan to call in to collect a cheque from their Barnsley and Rotherham Branch as they had done a coffee morning and wanted to give the money to Duncan’s appeal.

“Duncan and myself visited both Cheryl and Tracey Mickle, senior engineering manager who are absolutely wonderful ladies and very passionate about helping us and our local community.

“After meeting Duncan on the bus they were only too happy to support his appeal and both ladies have agreed to continue to support Duncan’s appeal next year.”

A cheque was handed over to Duncan for £810.00. which has enabled Duncan to reach £33,000 and given his appeal a boost.

Speaking previously about Macmillan, Duncan, of Barugh Green, said: “Macmillan is really close to my heart. My wife passed away with cancer and to be really honest the nurses couldn’t do enough for my wife and my family. They ran around after us and constantly made sure we were OK.

“Even after my wife passed away, they were there for me afterwards with counselling.”
