THE funeral of popular Hoyland man David ‘Clocky’ Pell will take place next Friday.

Clocky worked for Hoyland District council for 36 years as a road sweeper. He died on January 12 after suffering with thyroid problems.

Following news of his death, the Beggar and Gentleman in Hoyland held a fundraising event to raise money towards a memorial in honour of Clocky, raising £1,400.63.

Paula Perry, who was Clocky’s neighbour thanked all those involved.

“We are so grateful to everyone who donated and gave prizes for the raffle,” she said.

“My neighbour Maria and myself went door to door selling raffle tickets to boost sales and all in all it was a great community effort.”

David’s body will leave Guest Street, where he lived, at 10.30am and travel down to the Salvation Army on Hoyland Common where his funeral will take place. He will then be laid to rest at Hoyland Cemetery at 11.30am. Following this there will be a wake at the Salvation Army.
