THE furious mother of a boy who was ambushed by a ‘clown with a knife’ has said the craze needs to be taken extremely seriously.

Police confirmed there had been ten reported incidents involving people dressed as clowns causing distress across Barnsley - there have been more than 60 across South Yorkshire in the last three weeks.

Keane Mawson is a victim of what is thought to be the first incident of the recent craze in Barnsley.

He was walking home from Outwood Academy Shafton with friends on Friday when the creepy clown jumped out in front of them.

“He just jumped straight out right in front of our faces,” said Keane, 11, who said he was really frightened.

“He had a knife. He didn’t say anything, he was just holding this knife out at us. All I can remember is he had green hair, a white face, and a big scary looking red mouth.”
