FURIOUS Goldthorpe residents have been discussing the state of what they are calling their 'dumping site' village.

A two-hour public meeting on Tuesday evening at the Comrades Club (Union Jack) saw residents challenge councillors on what was being done to improve the village and its reputation following its appearance on a damaging Channel Four programme.

The meeting was attended by up to 200 local people and members of Barnsley Council.

Lily Dorritt, who runs the 'Memories of growing up in Goldthorpe' Facebook page, said: "I'm proud of the people of Goldthorpe for turning up in force. They have got strong issues and that is why so many people came.

"They did get some answers but not the ones they were all looking for. They're going to get answers. The village is a dumping site and people are fed up."

The meeting was highly charged and frequently descended into a shouting match.
