MOTORISTS can expect months more delays before work is carried out to rectify a landslip which has left the main A629 Manchester Road reduced to one carriageway near Silkstone since early this year.

Engineers had to install traffic lights on a stretch of the road to keep vehicles off the Manchester-bound carriageway after the banking which supports the road was found to be crumbling away.

At the time Barnsley Council said it would be at least six months before experts were able to work out a solution for a permanent repair.

Now they have worked out what needs to be done to stabilise the area, but the work will have to be done in two phases and it is not yet clear whether the whole road will have to be closed while work is under way.
