A LONG term future has been found for a Barnsley community centre faced with closure due to council cutbacks.

Council chiefs agreed on Wednesday to hand over a 25-year lease to Worsbrough Common Community Association to take over the running of Worsbrough Common Community Centre which would have shut had action not been taken to safeguard the building.

The Warren Quarry Lane centre was faced with closure because of significant financial cutbacks by the council which said it was ‘no longer in a position to continue operating the facility’.

The centre started out life as the Worsbrough Common ICT Centre constructed in 1991 by the council. The building provided a council-run training centre, which consisted of a job club, ICT classes and other activities.
