RETIRED TV engineer Trevor Miller bought the derelict Electra Palace in Elsecar 12 years ago for £35,000 and has been turning the old cinema into his home.

He lives in the huge auditorium - it once accommodated 600 cinema-goers - warmed by an industrial heater, and surrounded by curiosities like a church organ and pre-war projector.

This room once rang to the laughter of film fans but the curtain came down in 1985 when the last movie was shown. Not one person turned up for the farewell.

Trevor wants to hear stories from people who remember "going to the pictures" at the Futurist. Legend has it that there were a few double seats in the back row for loved up couples.
