MIKE Lawrence has used the power of online gaming, streaming and donations to raise funds for charity.
His creative idea of hosting live streams to raise money has earned him a Proud of Barnsley nomination.
In the past two years, Mike, 30, of Tempest Avenue, Darfield, has raised £1,500 for Macmillan cancer support alongside his friends by hosting online live streams via Twitch which is a live streaming video platform used by gamers.
Mike said: “I’m extremely happy and quite shocked to be nominated.
“It’s nice to think that the work I’ve done over the past two years has been successful and noticed by others.
Mike has been gaming since he was ‘quite young and still enjoys it just as hobby’.
He is hosting his third charity fundraising stream on Saturday August 18, from 9am until 3am.
“Viewers are invited to watch the live stream and will be able to take part in computer games such as Over Watch and other PC games.
“I hope the 18 hours’ live stream I am doing this month will create more awareness of mental health issues.
“I wanted to support MIND because I believe they help make people feel safe and help tackle issues somebody is going through nobody should have to suffer with a mental illness alone.
“I know a few people who have suffered from mental health issues, so I would love people to show their support by donating.
“I’m hoping this year’s fundraiser will be as successful as the other two I have done.”
Prizes such as toys, a PC gaming chair, art, collectables, high-street vouchers and digital reward codes will be available to stream viewers to win throughout the day through a raffle and point system.
He has set himself a target of £500 for MIND but he is hoping this will be stretched much further on the day
