North Gawber reached the Sheffield Senior Cup final for the first time in their history with a 1-0 success at Maltby Main on Wednesday.

County Senior League Gawber, who play two divisions below their hosts, got the only goal through substitute Rob Cartwright after 86 minutes. They will face Frickley Athletic in the final at Sheffield United’s Bramall Lane ground on May 23.

Coach Dave Simms said: “It’s beyond our wildest dreams. But the players and staff deserve it for all their hard work. It’s great for the community and for Barnsley football. Barnsley FC are flying and there’s a team from the town in the county cup final. We were superb at Maltby from start to finish.”
