A CAWTHORNE farm is inviting people to ‘get lost’ when its amazing maize maze opens tomorrow.

The giant puzzle of pathways has been created at Jowett House Farm close to Cannon Hall and the design is based on the farm’s ‘Little Grey Fergie’ tractor which has just been restored to its former glory this year.

“This little tractor was bought by my husband Jim’s grandfather to haul coal up the Welsh valleys to their nursery, to heat the greenhouses,” said Sarah Williams, whose family run the farm.

“I can’t tell you how old it is as that is one of the answers to a quiz question visitors have to find in the maze.

“We all had our first experience of driving on this tractor when we were teenagers. Five years ago it was used to pull a trailer with Jim’s coffin on when he died of cancer. The restoration was something the family wanted to do in his memory.

“We hope our regular visitors will also enjoy seeing the transformation as we will be taking tractor and trailer rides up to the farmyard most days.”

Sarah said the maze is growing faster than ever this year due to the hot weather, and is more than six feet tall already in most places.

It’s open from tomorrow until September 3, every day 10.30am to 6pm, then weekends only for the rest of September.
