‘GHOST’ police cars could be parked at strategic positions in Barnsley to deter speeding.

The potential scheme was discussed by Sergeant Dave Baines at a PACT meeting in Royston on Tuesday - which discusses crime-related concerns - who told members that there is a possibility of it being implemented given how many speeding reports the force gets.

Although the marked cars won’t have officers inside, it is hoped the presence will make people think twice.

Roads including High Street, Royston; Fish Dam Lane, Carlton; New Park Springs, Grimethorpe; Church Street, Royston and Burton Road, Monk Bretton have all been mooted as possible locations.

“We simply don’t have enough resources to put on daily speed operations at locations we’re aware have problems so this is something that could work.”
