A YOUNG girl set herself a challenge to run at least one mile a day throughout October.

Eirian Firth, five, of Staincross Common, has been running alongside her mum Carrie, as part of the Ron Hill Challenge.

Dr Ron Hill MBE is a famous long distance runner who never missed a day running from December 20 1964 and January 30 2017.

His clothing brand, Ronhill set up a challenge four years ago challenging people to run at least a mile a day, a challenge which Eirian was keen to accept.

Along with her mum, Carrie, 39, and dad Lorenzo, 51, Eirian has been running up to two and a half miles each day.

Carrie said: “Me and my husband are keen runners. We are both very active and we both completed the Ron Hill Challenge last year. Eirian heard us talking about doing it this year and asked if she could do it.

“She has never once complained and she absolutely loves it. I’m a mum of five so it’s lovely to have some one-on-one time with her.”

Together they run around Mapplewell and Staincross, covering around 2.3 miles. With less than a week to go until the end of the challenge, Eirian is planning to run three miles on October 31.

Carrie said: “Eirian is very determined to complete three miles on the last day of the challenge. I am gradually running longer distances with her and she’s very competitive so I have every faith that she will do it.”
