Three young women from Barnsley have flown to South Africa for a two-week trip with the Girls' Brigade.

Eleanor Pollard and Rachel Standeven, both 18, and Kim Hawksby, 25, will visit the 120-year anniversary conference of the Girls' Brigade in Cape Town before spending a week working with orphans and widows with Christian organisation Out of Africa Missions.

Eleanor, who is originally from Royston but is studying bio-medicine at Lancaster University, said: "We're excited about the trip, it'll be a great time. We thought at first it would be too much money for us to go but we've managed to get the funds and we see this as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

"The Girls' Brigade conference will be amazing, seeing people from all over the world will be a fantastic experience, and then we'll be able to give something back by working in kids' clubs and with widows."
