A MAN and woman were treated by paramedics after a house fire in Hoyland.

Three fire crews from Barnsley, Tankersley and Rotherham were called to Springwood Road at 11.40am on Saturday.

A spokesman for the fire service said the cause of the fire was sunlight shining on a glass garden ornament which focussed the light on to a wooden shed.

The fire then spread to the house.

A man suffered a burn to his right hand and a woman was treated for smoke inhalation.

The spokesman said the fire was well alight when crews arrived and a hose reel jet was used to put out the fire.

It was logged as accidental.
