A PLAN to extend a building to create a bedsit for six people near Barnsley town centre is set to be approved next week.

Applicant Ben Shufflebottom’s bid, which relates to Springfield Place, near Townend roundabout, has been earmarked to be given the green light by the council’s planning department.

A report said: “In close proximity to the site is Springfield House, which until recently provided office accommodation for the council. This building now benefits from consent to be converted into 66 apartments.

“The applicant seeks permission to erect a three-and-a-half storey extension onto the existing building to create a separate six-bedroom home of multiple occupancy (HMO). Each bedroom would have its own bathroom.”

Councillors on the planning board will discuss the scheme on Tuesday.
