THE REGENERATION of Goldthorpe can finally get underway with two major developments being approved by Barnsley Council this week.

Plans for the new Goldthorpe Primary School on Main Street were passed at the planning board meeting and a project to knock down one half of the run-down Beever Street was also agreed upon.

The Victorian Beever Street houses are seen to be of a very low quality. The council will seek to buy numbers 1 to 37 and then demolish them to make way for an affordable housing development.

The project is set to cost £1m and negotiations are already underway with the landlords of 14 of the 19 houses.
