COMEDIAN and actor Victoria Wood was a fan Barnsley sculptor Graham Ibbeson - who is to immortalise the late star with a statue, it was revealed this week.

Graham, who is known throughout the world for his sculptures of comedy greats including Morecambe and Wise, Laurel and Hardy, and a forthcoming statue of Benny Hill, said he was delighted to have been chosen to create the statue of Victoria in Bury, Lancashire.

“I’m absolutely flabbergasted by the response to it,” said Graham.

“I’ve known for a few weeks but I was sworn to secrecy. It does really pile the stress and pressure on me now though.”

He now hopes to raise a further £40,000 through his JustGiving page toward the cost of making and installing the bronze statue. Details can be found by searching ‘VictoriaWood’ on the website Justgiving.com.
