A BARNSLEY grandmother who says cancer ‘will never knock her down’ has raised cash for charity after getting her head shaved.

Elaine Liles, of New Lodge Crescent, was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in August 2016 and has been battling the disease ever since, with doctors finding abnormal tissue in her right breast, in her liver, lung and above her stomach.

But the 61-year-old said she although she goes to Weston Park Hospital in Sheffield once a week for chemotherapy, she says it hasn’t hampered her outlook.

Elaine took part in a ‘Brave the Shave’ event in the Co-op supermarket, New Lodge, where she works, although she is off at the moment due to her having treatment. The shave saw her raise about £300 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

“It was great, my son Simon had it done with me as wel,” she said. “When I said I was doing Brave the Shave he said we would be doing it together and insisted on it.

“I was going to get my head shaved the first time I was diagnosed but couldn’t so got it done this time. I’ve had my head shaved before so this time it wasn’t much different.”
